Manchester United Aims for Twin Titles by 2028, says Chief Executive

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada reveals a bold initiative to mark the club's 150th anniversary in 2028 by claiming both men's and women's league titles. Coined 'Project 150', this ambitious goal was set in September 2024 as a significant milestone for the club that was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath.

Berrada acknowledged the daunting nature of the project, especially considering the recent underperformance of the men's team, and the women's team's challenge to outperform Chelsea's unbeaten Treble winners. However, the chief executive expresses a determined outlook in an interview with the United We Stand fanzine, emphasizing that 'it is better to aim high than have no target at all'.

In spite of difficulties like a hefty loss in revenue from a Europa League final defeat, and necessary redundancies, Berrada is optimistic. He sees the completed £50m upgrade at United's Carrington training ground as a significant asset, particularly for the development of the women's team. He reaffirmed the club's commitment to make the women's team successful, stating 'a club of our scale has a responsibility to grow football in general and contribute to women's football'.

Ruben Amorim, the coach brought in from Sporting in November, will undoubtedly face intense scrutiny and pressure given this lofty three-year goal. Berrada, however, drew comparisons between Amorim and Pep Guardiola, citing Guardiola's initial struggles at Manchester City before eventually finding success.

Berrada, maintaining his positive outlook, stated that the team is on the right path, even though the road towards these ambitious goals will not be easy. He fervently believes in their capacity to 'start building' and eventually triumph, bringing Manchester United back to the top.
